D.O. Rias Baixas: Albarino | Vegan, from the 50-year-old Miranda Aurosa, estate-grown vineyard. Aged on lees with weekly battonage in stainless steel tank for 7 months. Pale yellow. Vibrant citrus and orchard fruit aromas are complemented by suggestions of jasmine and smoky minerals. Palate-staining Meyer lemon, pear nectar, honeysuckle and spicy ginger flavors are underscored by a repeating mineral nuance that builds as the wine opens up. Shows impressive depth but comes off lithe, finishing with strong, floral persistence and fine detail.

Bierzo, Mencia | Under the care of brothers Gonzalo and Daniel Amigo, this tiny estate of less than 7 acres still boasts vines from the original Mencía and Godello plots, now over one hundred years old. With only 1300 bottles produced, this wine is estate-grown and sustainably farmed. Fermentation and 12 months sur lie aging in just two 500mL French oak barrels. The time this wine spends in oak adds great depth of fruit and silkiness to the palate. Classic aromas of violets and dark berries are accompanied by baking spices and smoke. The palate is vibrant and inviting as a young wine, but structured to evolve with age.

The result is a major wine that is named after the winery. Aged 20 months in mostly French oak. Its deep purple color is followed by a beautiful perfume of blackberries, plums, and cedarwood. Elegant, full-bodied, with ripe, present tannins, and a great finish.

Lustau East India Solera

Cream Sherry | 15 years. Dark mahogany in color, offering vibrant notes of maple syrup, brown sugar, raisin and chocolate, all very well integrated. On the palate it is smooth and rich at the beginning, full of prune and burned oranges peel flavors. Provocative spicy notes appear just before its nuttiness and terrific acidity cuts through the sweetness, with a truly unforgettable finish. Each wine (Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez) is matured, separately in its own solera for 12 years. Once blended, the resulting sherry is returned to a 45-cask solera for a further 3 years ageing. In centuries gone by, casks with sherry were lashed to ships sailing for the Indies and were found to develop an extraordinary smoothness and complexity. Lustau has revived this style of sherry in the East India wine.

Dry Sherry | 8 years. This dry Amontillado acquires a genuine, rich and nutty flavor through years of ageing. Amber in color, with hazelnut aromas on the nose. Light, soft and round on the palate, with a long aftertaste. There were two arches at the entrance to the winery at Plaza del Cubo, where this Amontillado was aged. Each one was dedicated to one of Emilio Lustau’s sons’ wives: Arco de Zuri (for Emilio Lustau Ruiz-Berdejo’s wife) and Trini (wife of José Luis Lustau Ruiz Berdejo).

Sweet Sherry | 12 years. Pedro Ximénez grapes are laid out in the sun after picking until they are practically raisins. After that the fermentation starts slowly and it’s halted to maintain all the natural sugars. The resulting wine ages in for 12 years in contact with the air in Jerez de la Frontera. The aromas are reminiscent of figs, raisins and dates. Enormously sweet, velvety and soft on the palate, well balanced, with a very long finish.
